Ep. 2 - Ding Dong the Bugbear's Dead

When last we left our heroes, they had just entered the offering room of the temple and defeated six goblins.  They still heard the chanting but it seemed to only be one voice.  They briefly took a look around the room. The goblins had a small pouch of silver coins that the party wasted no time in distributing amongst themselves.  There was a brazier in the middle of the room.  On all the walls there were carvings of gallant knights fighting chaotic monsters, orcs, and goblins.  On one wall there was a carving of a particularly valiant looking knight and under it was the inscription "Oath of the Rhovanian Order - I, Eldacar, swear the Rhovanian Oath; To serve law, battle chaos, and strive to keep the Rhovanian lore secret."  It appeared that centuries ago this was a memorial temple to the Knights of the Rhovanian Order.  The party was in the offering room where the faithful would offer incense to the goddess the Knights of Rhovanian served.  After a very brief discussion, fear for the safety of Bess compelled the party to go down the hallway and attempt to surprise whatever was waiting in the next room.

As they were sneaking through the hallway, Tid's keen eye caught sight of a pressure plate in the floor, preventing the party from a dangerous booby trap.  As the party rounded the corner, they saw an enormous bugbear carefully watching the chanting of a goblin shaman.  In the far right corner of the room, in a small, crudely constructed wooden cage cowered Bess.  Against the wall in the back of the room was a large statue of Eldacar.  Wasting no time, the party surprised both the bugbear and the shaman with a rain of arrows and magic missiles.  It was Cailee who dealt the final death blow to the bugbear boss with a precisely placed arrow to the ballocks.

With Bess rescued, the party took some time to examine the room.  There was an inscription on the base of the statue which read "To keep this you must first give it to me."  The party pondered the riddle for quite some time, finally realizing that the answer was "giving your word."  The party took the oath of the Rhovanian Order and the far wall started to vibrate, and a secret door ground open.

Inside the hidden room, there were several stacks of gold, which the party divided among themselves.  There were also six stone coffins on platforms, arranged three on each side of the room, and one larger stone coffin at the end of the crypt. The party had discovered the hidden resting place of the Rhovanian Order!

Several poor decisions ensued.  Upon opening the first coffin, Quildhotar became frightened that the skeletons would somehow reanimate.  At this point the party proceeded to open and desecrate all six coffins.  They scattered bones in the forest, crushed some, and burned others.  Cailee kept one of the shinbones to turn into a flute.  Quildhotar kept a pelvis bone.  They also made a tooth necklace.  Upon opening the seventh and final coffin of Eldacar, they found it empty, and the skeleton of Eldacar attacked them, furious about the treatment of his knights.  The party defeated Eldacar's ghost and Dinkelburg kept the skull, and Tid kept a toe bone.  They also took a magic sword that was in the coffin of Eldacar.

Upon completing their ill-advised looting of the tomb, the party traveled back to the Green Dragon for a night of rest before they set out to escort Gundren's cart to Phandelvin.
